Accelerated Courses
Starting in July 2026, we are launching a new way for you to power through your degree.
By adapting our Guided Study courses into a fast-paced, 4-week format, you can now earn credits faster and more affordably using Accelerated Courses.
These 4-week independent study courses enable students to work in an accelerated fashion on their own to complete course assignments and take examinations. Like our e-Pack® courses, students taking Accelerated Courses have no interaction with classmates.
Basics of the 4-Week Format
-
What are accelerated courses?
These are 4-week versions of our existing Guided Study courses. They are designed for undergraduate students who already have some familiarity with the subject matter and want to progress quickly.
-
Do Accelerated Courses require fewer assignments and exams than online or Guided Study courses?
Accelerated courses require the same amount of work in each course as online and Guided Study courses. Per TESU’s Credit Hour Policy, please expect to spend 48 hours per week for each three (3) credit accelerated course. Students who have previous knowledge or experience in the subject of the course may be more comfortable in the Accelerated Courses.
-
How often are they offered?
We offer three consecutive four (4)-week sessions within every 12-week term.
-
Who can take them?
Any undergraduate student can elect to take these courses.
-
How many credits can I earn?
By taking one course in every four (4)-week session, you can earn up to 36 credits (12 courses) per year. You can take more though, up to 16 credits in any 12-week period, usually under one term.
Academic Flexibility and Pacing
-
Are there set due dates for assignments?
No. Accelerated courses do not have individual assignment due dates or late-penalty policies. Your grade is based on whatever coursework and exams you submit by the end of the four (4)-week session. However, to show "academic engagement" and remain eligible for financial aid, you must complete at least Module 1 by the end of the second week of the session.
-
What if I need more time?
We offer a no-cost eight (8)-week course extension upon request. Unlike other formats, you do not need a mentor's certification or a requirement to have 50% of the work completed to ask for this extension.
-
Can I mix course lengths?
Yes! You can mix four (4)-week, 12-week, and (for Bachelor’s to Master’s or Nursing students) 8-week graduate courses all in one term.
-
When can I expect my final course grade to be released?
Grades are released within 9 days after the end of each session.
Tuition and Financial Aid
-
How does this save me money?
You can take advantage of the Full-time Flat Rate Tuition without needing to take 9 credits all at once. Instead, you can spread those 9+ credits across the three consecutive four (4)-week sessions.
-
Can I use Financial Aid?
Yes, federal and state Financial Aid can be used for these courses. To remain eligible and show "academic engagement," you must complete at least Module 1 by the end of the second week of the session.
-
When is tuition due?
Unless you are paying the full-time flat rate (which is due before the term starts), tuition for individual accelerated courses is not due until right before the specific four (4)-week session begins.
-
Refund Policy
- 100% refund if dropped before Session Day 1.
- 50% refund if dropped before Session Day 7.
Registration and Degrees
-
Which degrees can be completed entirely through these courses?
Several popular programs are designed to be completed using only accelerated courses:
- BA in Liberal Studies (General, Computer Science, or Humanities concentrations)
- BS in General Management
- AA in General Studies
- AS in Business Management or Computer Science
- AAS in Construction and Facility Support
-
How can I find the Accelerated Course offerings each term?
In Self-Service, use the filter to search for a specific term, then under Course Type, filter for Accelerated Session 1, Accelerated Session 2 and Accelerated 3. You will find the Accelerated sections listed with a section code of AC, as opposed to OL for online, NU for Nursing or GS for Guided Study.
-
Can I still add a course if the term has already started?
Yes. You can add or drop courses for future four (4)-week sessions while the overall term is still ongoing, right up until the day the specific session starts. There is no late registration fee for these courses.
-
Do the Accelerated Courses count toward my TESU residency requirement?
Yes, the Accelerated Courses do count toward your residency requirement of 15 credits for traditional or nursing students and 12/24 for active military students.
-
Can I use the Accelerated courses in my Bachelor’s to Master’s program?
Absolutely. Admitted bachelor’s students can earn up to 12 graduate credits to apply toward both their Bachelor’s and a future Master’s degree. For example, BS in General Management students can take graduate courses toward an MBA, M.S. in Management, or M.S. in Healthcare Management. Speak to your advisor to plan this out.
