Gifts of Stocks and Bonds

Donating appreciated securities, including stocks or bonds, is an easy and tax-effective way for you to make a gift to Thomas Edison State University.

Please see the instructions below to make to gifts of securities, IRA contributions, via donor-advised funds or wire transfers. Please share them with your legal or financial advisors to help facilitate your gift.   • Contributing Securities to TESU via Electronic Transfer

    Your bank or broker may transfer stock to the Thomas Edison State University Foundation using the following:

    Your gift will be credited on the transfer date. In order to correctly identify, value and receipt your gift in a timely manner, you or your broker should advise Thomas Edison State University’s Advancement Office with the following information:

    • Name of the donor
    • Designation of the gift
    • Statement that the stock is to benefit Thomas Edison State University Foundation
    • Stock information, including stock name, symbol and number of shares
    • Originating broker
  • Contributing Shares From a Mutual Fund

    To contribute via a mutual fund, you must first contact the TESU Foundation to request instructions and forms to transfer your shares into a Thomas Edison State University Foundation account.

  • Contributing Directly From An IRA or Other Electronic Fund Transfer

    Electronic distributions from IRA accounts or direct electronic account transfers must be made directly to the Thomas Edison State University Foundation from the IRA administrator. Checks made payable to the donor and endorsed to TESU Foundation will not be considered qualified.

    For IRA funds that have been liquidated or electronic fund transfers, please contact the TESU Foundation to request instructions and forms to transfer your shares into a Thomas Edison State University Foundation account.

  • Contributing an IRA Rollover Check

    To contribute via an IRA rollover check, please contact your IRA plan administrator to initiate a direct transfer from your IRA account to Thomas Edison State University Foundation, sent to the mailing address below. You may request that your name and address as the donor of record be shared in connection with the transfer.

    Grants can be sent by wire or ACH. Please contact the Office of Advancement at advancement@tesu.edu for ACH electronic transfer instructions. We encourage you to specify the purpose of your grant by indicating the department, project or fund that you wish to support. For your information — per IRS regulations — grants from donor-advised funds cannot be used to fulfill personal charitable pledges or in situations in which you receive a benefit, such as purchasing event tickets.

Please notify Mary Heagley, vice president of advancement and executive director, TESU Foundation, when you’re recommending a grant from your donor-advised fund to Thomas Edison State University Foundation, so it is allocated properly. Include the name of your donor-advised fund, the financial institution, the grant amount and purpose.
